📅 Appointment & Consultation
When should I book a travel medicine appointment?
We recommend booking an appointment at least 4–6 weeks before departure – this allows sufficient time for vaccination courses, for the necessary immunity to build up, and for any necessary medication to be obtained (e.g. malaria prophylaxis).
How do I book a travel health consultation?
The easiest way is via our online booking system. Alternatively, you can send us a message via Medflex or use our digital telephone assistant.
What can I expect during the travel health consultation?
We will discuss your destination, the duration of your trip, your current vaccination status and any individual risk factors (pre-existing conditions, medication, pregnancy, etc.). Based on this, we will recommend specific vaccinations, malaria prophylaxis where necessary, and other preventive measures – all tailored to your personal circumstances.
💉 Vaccinations & yellow fever
Is the practice an approved yellow fever vaccination centre?
Yes. Travel Medicine Tyrol is an officially recognised yellow fever vaccination centre. Dr Marco Schönberger is a certified yellow fever vaccinator and will issue the internationally recognised yellow fever vaccination certificate (in accordance with the WHO’s IHR guidelines) following the vaccination. Please book a separate appointment for this.
What travel vaccinations are available?
We offer all standard travel vaccinations, including yellow fever, typhoid, hepatitis A and B, rabies, meningococcal disease, Japanese encephalitis and TBE. In addition, we administer all standard vaccinations recommended in the Austrian immunisation schedule, which often need to be updated at the same time.
What vaccinations do I need for my trip?
This depends on your destination, the length of your trip, your travel style (backpacking vs. package holiday) and your personal vaccination status. It is not possible to give a blanket recommendation – we will discuss this with you individually during a consultation.
Are travel vaccinations covered by health insurance?
Travel vaccinations are generally private services and are not covered by statutory health insurance. Some supplementary insurance policies will reimburse the costs upon request. We will provide you with clear information in advance about the costs involved and issue an invoice upon request.
What costs should I expect?
If you have the recommended vaccinations administered at our clinic, the travel medicine consultation is free of charge. If you decide against a vaccination or require a consultation only, we charge a consultation fee of €40 per person – as the consultation requires our time and expertise, regardless of whether you proceed with the vaccination.
🦟 Malaria & first-aid kit
Do I need malaria prophylaxis?
This depends on your destination and your planned route. In some parts of the world, preventive medication is recommended or necessary. We will advise you on an individual basis and issue a prescription if required. Please allow plenty of time, as some medications need to be taken before you set off.
What should be in a first-aid kit?
What you pack depends on your destination and the length of your trip. Commonly recommended items include fever-reducing medication, remedies for diarrhoea and nausea, first-aid supplies, sun cream and – depending on your destination and travel style – antibiotics for self-treatment or water purification tablets. We would be happy to put together a personalised list for you during a consultation.

What’s the quickest way to get to the surgery?
The quickest way is via Medflex – our digital patient communication platform. There, you can send messages and request appointments. You can reach us by phone via our digital assistant – all incoming enquiries are dealt with reliably.
Can I send an email as well?
No – unfortunately not. As there is no standard encryption protocol for emails, some of them could be viewed by third parties in unencrypted form. When it comes to sensitive medical data, that is simply not an option for us. Please use Medflex instead – it’s secure, simple and direct.
